Sharing My Saturday

We had over 5" of rain yesterday. My husband dumped our gauge, and it rained hard for hours after that. But, finally, the sun is shining this morning and it's cool and dry air. Yippee! Doesn't it just change your whole thought process when the sun shines after the rain.
I cleaned out an old basket this morning. Look what I found. Some old quilt blocks (hand pieced) that I got last year. Some stitching I forgot about. Includes redwork, and prim stitching from Buttermilk Basin patterns. LOL Not sure where I'll put them, but I'm planning to stitch up the old quilt blocks into pillows.
I'm woking on my small sampler gathering. I have started just randomly (using that gum sticky stuff) to play with how it might work out. I have a larger sampler to get framed two smaller and another 5 x 7. But, I'm thinking I like the way it's going to work out. Didn't like what I had in this space before.
I just finished folding my last load of laundry. I have a few domestic chores and then I'm out to my studio. My sweet is going to be gone this afternoon through Monday afternoon. Going to a lake region of Missouri with some friends for fishing and more fishing. LOL They have a cabin and their own dock and fish cleaning station, so they are all excited. Mark Twain Lake, near Hannibal, Missouri. I love him dearly but it's fun to just mess around with no expectations, cook - no cook - watch what ever you want on TV and I have a movie picked out if I come in from the studio in time.
I hope you are all having a great weekend, I'm thinking about working on some altered art for a switch up. I miss it and having just now finished up another counted thread project, I think it's time to stretch. I'll be dropping by :) Hugs,P

Free Black Bird Pattern Contest

Well, I decided to set my needle on the sampler pattern from Black Bird designs. It is such a neat chart and it's fun to see how they all come out different. Above is my progress. I'm using a hand dyed 28 count linen that I dyed and antiqued. It softened and is fun to stitch on. I'm using WDW Raspberry Parfait. It's the most awesome color for doing red work. I'm hooked on it and the Geranium color. It gives the piece a neat antique look. I also finished up my little spring bird sampler from a Beth Twist pattern. Both will be going into my gathering I'm working on.

Well, I'm looking forward to a great weekend, a lot to do. I want to touch base with my friend from Brens Busy Hands. She and her husband are going to be in Taladega(?) at the NASCAR race this weekend. Maybe she'll run into my friend Vicki and her husband from Iowa. They are huge fans too. LOL Always on the go! The closer my J and I get to retirement the more we are on the go. I thought we were suppose to slow down. We have to much we want to do, while not all requires travel, we love doing our thing. Both of us are looking forward to next weekend with friends and family on a junk/antique/treasure destination in Iowa. I'll let ya know how it goes. Sunday Simplified

We are enjoying a quiet, lazy day around here. Watching movies and then the race. I've got ham and beans simmering and about to mix up my cornbread. It smells so good in here. Yummy! We had a busy Saturday but not together. J had to cook for his sportsman group in Golden IL and I was off to Burlington for my friend's wedding. It was very fun and beautiful. We knew Carolyn could pull off a memory.
I am also posting what recently came off my hoop and the Halloween sampler I've been working on the last few days. It's the "Kindred Spirits" chart from Primitive Needle.

Weekend Whirlwind

Here I am, quietly sitting in the peace of home. Some coffee,typing in the comfort of blog land. LOL It feels so good to unwind. John and I went to the Duck Unlimited State Convention this weekend, along with about 10 other couples from here. It is a fun time and great food. The girls always get in a little shopping and dancing and just hanging out. This year was just the same. We always manage to have a great time, although tired.
I actually got a little bit of stitching in and a nap one afternoon. Yippee.
Wynnie and Dottie stayed with my daughter and family. This is them when they come home. They barely move to 24 hours. They are so tired.

That household is alot more active than ours. But, they love it - and we wouldn't have them stay anywhere else.
The picture below is from a Stacey Nash pattern. It's a sewing roll. I haven't got the ribbon on it. There's place for small scissors, and needles and it just rolls up and you can put it in for stitching bag. I love it. The linen is so soft after washing, and fun to work up. I used a reproduction cival war fabric for the outside. I think it was from Windham fabric line, it might have been Moda? I really like working on her patterns and the primitive look of it. Thanks Stacey for the great patterns.


I wanted to add that our prayers have been working full force. Sally May is done with her radiation and the cancerous brain tumor they hoped to stop from growing has in fact shrunk. It should continue to shrink for some time now. She doesn't have to go back for another MRI for 6 months. So keep on fellow prayer warriors, she's home and back to her normal routine and school. Will keep you posted after her follow up.
Well, I better get busy. I've got the washing machine humming and the dryer buzzer going off. The special comforting sounds of a domestic goddess. Giggle.
